Alexander von Humboldt's 1804 map of the Texas coast changed the spelling of the Evia map from 'Bahia de Galvez-towm' to 'Bahia de Galveston' and applies the name 'Isla de San Luis' for Galveston and Follets Island. Humboldt retains the name of 'Pt. de Culebras' (Snake Point) used by Evia for the eastern tip of Galveston Island. Stephen F. Austin, beginning in 1822, created the earliest accurate map of the area, depicting Galveston Bay, Galveston Island, Galveston Inlet (present-day Bolivar Roads), West Pass (present-day San Luis Pass), Follets Island, and Velasco.
