1896 Coastal Waterway
In 1896, the US Corps of Engineers reported that the government had completed dredging in Christmas Bay and Mud Pass to connect the Galveston and Brazos Navigation Company Canal with West Galveston Bay. Much of this old waterway has silted in, although some deep cuts through the Arcadia reef survive and can be seen on modern aerial photography.
