1942-2015 Beach Front Erosion
Prior to 1929, Surfside received abundant sediment from the old Brazos Delta and the shoreline grew. In 1929, the lower Brazos was diverted 6 miles to the SW and jetties were built on either side of the former mouth of the Brazos. The old Brazos Delta was soon eroded and transported to the SW to form a new Brazos Delta. This starved the Surfside beach of sediment, causing erosion and shoreline retreat.
