Holocene Brazos
Over the past 8000 years, the lower Brazos River has shifted its course to the south. From 4,000 to 6,000 BC, it occupied the present-day location of Big Slough, with the channel winding through the present-day locations of Christmas Bay, Bastrop Bay, and San Luis Pass. In 4,000 BC, it shifted to the present-day location of Oyster Creek, where it remained for the next 4,500 years, before shifting to its present-day location in 500 AD.
